Groups

Groups are the primary way we connect with others and live our lives on mission. These smaller groups of people (10-20) provide an opportunity to know others and be known within the church body. Through these relationships, we mutually challenge and encourage one another to truly believe our Identity in Christ and live life in Rhythms that show the world who God truly is.

Each group has identified their unique mission within the larger community and meets regularly to eat, learn, pray and be together on mission, living out the Gospel in real and tangible expressions.

Whether you consider yourself part of the Harambee family -- or if you're just checking out what it looks like to live as Jesus lived -- it is our desire that everyone would be an active member in one of these communities that bring life, healing and growth.

The Refuge

Learn More...

Our vision is to be available for the homeless in Renton, to give them a chance to fellowship with Christians rather than simply be fed and watched. We try to make friends with those on the street so they will feel loved and respected. We also direct them to the proper resources when they need them. Also, we direct them to other ministries that can help them get off the street when they ask. We pray for them and we pray together with them as needs arise. We meet Saturdays for the community meal. Sundays after the gathering, at about 12:30, we meet with some of our volunteers in a DNA, bible study or prayer/support time. Lately, several of the homeless have been coming to the church gathering. We have incorporated them into our MC group on Sundays.

We are currently not studying the word as we are not sure who will be coming on a regular basis. We do read pertinent scripture as it comes up in our discussion. On Sundays especially we try to center the conversation on how Christ fulfills all our needs.

We serve the meal every Saturday night 4:30 to 6:00. MC group meets at Harambee at 12:30 to 1:30 in the classroom.

Family Dinner & Meeting:

Sundays at ~12:30pm

Address:

The Hub

Learn More...

The Hub MC exists to love and honor God through the path of Jesus/Isa as we seek to love and bless our neighboring Muslim communities. Often these neighbors are refugees or immigrants from East Africa, South and Southeast Asia and Arab countries. As citizens of Heaven, we too are aliens and strangers in this world and desire to serve these communities. This is fleshed out in friendships of shared life, tangible service and God-Willing, a shared hope in Jesus.

We typically gather weekly to share a meal, stories and prayers as well as to encourage and learn from one another and God.

Family Dinner & Meeting:

Monday evenings – 6:30pm to 9pm

West Hill Kent

Learn More...

We seek to bring the Gospel to those living in our neighborhood just above Lake Fenwick. We join in what God is already doing in people’s hearts and build relationships through BBQs, work parties, and celebrations. We are always looking for ways to see how God’s Story is intersecting our own stories. We enjoy lifting each other up in prayer and sharing meals together on a weekly basis.

Recently, open doors with the Union Gospel Mission Prison Ministry has enabled us to partner with, praying for, and serving those incarcerated at the Kent Regional Justice Center. We also provide additional support to Step-by-Step (a non-profit organization devoted to helping at risk families). We also seek to serve the homeless in Renton by volunteering with “The Refuge” and at the Cold Weather Shelter in Renton.

Talbot Hill

Learn More...

Talbot Hill MC is made up of some people God, from Soma Renton, has called to join Him on His mission to Talbot Hill. This MC began when God moved John and Angie Prince into the Talbot Hill neighborhood. While praying about next steps God answered by leading John and Angie to focus on living out the Gospel amongst their immediate neighbors and the greater neighborhood. God gathered a core group of people from around the area and has been forming us by his story to understand who He is and how we can live in light of that. God has opened doors for the Princes to join the board of their neighborhood association. We are working to build relationships and take advantage of the opportunities God has given. We are praying for opportunities to serve our neighbors and present the Good News of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, that Jesus delivers us from guilt and shame, reconciling us to God. Jesus has freely given us his life so that we can give away ours.

Go! Waterland

Learn More...

After His resurrection, Jesus instructed His followers to “GO”. By the leading of the Holy Spirit, GO! WATERLAND desires to serve our neighbors and promote a positive sense of community and trust, being His Living Body by intentionally using all the resources He provides to draw Des Moines (“Waterland”) together, and, by His strength, “love people to Christ”—to the glory of God! Right now, we feel called to do this through weekly meetings for support and prayer, and regular engagement with the community through media.
